- ISA
- ‘Individual Savings Account’. ISAs are ‘wrappers’ in which you can shelter savings and investments from tax.
- ISIN
- ‘International Securities Identification Number. An ISIN is an international standard for identifying individual investments.
- In Specie
- This is the transfer of an investment between providers in its current form, rather than selling it and transferring the amount received from the sale in cash.
- Income Drawdown
- Accessing your pension pot to take regular or ad-hoc income payments.
- Independent Financial Advisor (IFA)
- A qualified professional who offers independent advice on financial matters. They can choose to make recommendations from all the products available on the market as they are not tied to any particular provider.
- Index Tracking
- The process of replicating the returns on a given index. They ‘track’ the index rather than trying to beat it (or risk underperforming it). Also known as passive management.
- Inflation
- This is a measure of the change in the general level of prices of goods over time. In the UK it is measured chiefly by the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) and the Retail Prices Index (RPI).
- Inheritance Tax
- A charge payable on someone’s estate after they die after the exemptions such as the nil rate band have been deducted. Pensions currently are not in scope for inheritance tax but will be from 6 April 2027.
- Investment Pathways
- An option introduced by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) to make managing drawdown pots easier and reduce the number of people who keep their pension savings in cash over the long term-making it vulnerable to inflation.
- Investment Trust
- A collection of assets owned by a particular person, people or organisation, for example a trustee board.
